Pioneer sm-g205

The SMG-205 model replaced the SMG-204 in Pioneer's offer. Electronically it was "almost" the previous model, the differences were "ejecting" the second AM tuner and "inserting" the MPX decoder. It has obviously changed the hardware design as well. The front panel lost one scale and the functions of the switches were changed. The SM-G205 also gained a pastel frame around the front panel which gave this model a very distinctive look. The amplifier remained exactly the same as in the previous model. The MPX decoder was a manifestation of very economical thinking, because the company used the same design in the receiver as in the external MXA-1 decoder. It had two 6CG7 tubes and no MPX stereo signal indicator. A ferrite antenna was added to the receiver, which enabled AM reception without a wire antenna. The newer design magic eye tube 6R-E13 (being the electronic equivalent of the EM84) worked as an adjustment indicator. The FM head had only two tuned circuits and worked on two ECC85 tubes, one section of which was, interestingly, untuned preamplifier. The SM-G205 has a preamplifier for a magnetoelectric turntable based on two 12AX7 / ECC83 tubes. The power amplifier is driven by double 6GW8 / ECL86 tubes working in the Push & Pull system with automatic bias. The receiver was powered by a 5AR4 / GZ34 duodiode tube. This model inherits from its predecessor integrated coaxial band potentiometers, i.e. bass and treble, as well as volume and balance. The preamplifier also uses a high-cut filter - "scratch" and a low-cut filter - "rumble". An additional switch physiologically changed a sound - it was so-called "loudness". For easier tuning of FM the AFC switch (A automatic Frequency Control) is used. This switch also changes the width of the received signal in the AM range - "Sharp / Broad" - narrow and wide.
