Pioneer sx-40

The Pioneer SX-40 model was the successor to the SM-Q300 series. A stereo MPX decoder module with three tubes 6AQ8 / ECC85, 6CG7 and 6AV6 / EBC91 was added to it. Of course, the second tuner for the AM range was also removed. The "magic eye" EM84 lamp was used as a tuning indicator, which is very rare for Pioneer. The power amplifier was a Push & Pull design with automatic bias. Unlike the SM-Q300, a 12AX7 / ECC83 was used as the driver tube. It was enough for this function, as the output tubes were the usual 6BQ5 / EL84. The other elements of the low frequency path did not change much and also used 12AX7 / ECC83 tubes. Thanks to this, the number of types in the amplifier has been limited to two - 6BQ5 / EL84 and 12AX7 / ECC83. The SX-40 was not able to work with a microphone.
Adjusting the bass and treble was performed independently for each channel on double coaxial potentiometers. The balance and volume controls were also based on a coaxial potentiometer, the outer part of the knob regulated the balance, and the internal volume.
Visually, the receiver used the design line that housed the SX-82 receiver, SM-83 series amplifiers and AFT-14 and TX-5 tuners.
